Welcome to Labcraft Brewology…
…where the art and science of brewing converge in a spirited exploration of flavours and fermentation. Brewology is the brainchild of three friends and Ph.D. Chemists living in the beer-loving lands of Belgium and Sweden and sharing a passion for both the complexities of chemistry and the joys of home brewing. Our journey started in the lab, where we spent countless hours experimenting with chemical reactions, and naturally transitioned to lab-scale brewing at home, where we now channel that same curiosity and precision into brewing exceptional beers.
Our Philosophy
Through www.brewology.xyz, we embark on a journey fueled by curiosity, camaraderie, and a shared interest for the craft of brewing. In this space, you’ll discover our musings, experiments, and findings as we delve into the intricate world of brewing. While we take our approach seriously, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We believe in having fun, trying new things, and embracing the unknown. Brewing, like any scientific endeavor, is a continuous learning process filled with surprises and discoveries. We don’t pretend to know it all or to be right every time, but we believe that this journey will make better brewers out of all of us. We celebrate the joy of brewing and the endless possibilities it offers.
Our updates might be sporadic, as we balance this activity with our professional commitments and other passions. There’s no profit in what we do here, only the pure enjoyment of brewing and the joy of sharing our findings with you. We invite you to join us on this journey, contribute your own insights, and perhaps even find inspiration for your own brewing adventures.

What can you expect from Brewology?
While the website shall start humbly and relatively small, it should be a continuous work in progress as we advance in our journey. As mentioned earlier, you’ll discover our musings, experiments, and findings as we delve into the intricate world of brewing. Our plan is to dive into the complexities of brewing, share our experiments and interpretations, all while keeping things fun.
There are different categories available on this website but two categories really are making the heart of the site:
Brewing Experiments (lab reports)
We love experimenting with brewing, and we’re not afraid to show our successes and flops. Working on small-scale batches, we play with variables and test new ideas, uncovering the principles that make it all work. Join us in learning from each experiment, whether it’s a hit or a hilarious miss. Our website will be a repository of our own experiments, serving as a valuable resource for anyone interested in the science of brewing.
Tried-and-True Recipes (publications)
Our recipes are crafted with care and tested thoroughly to ensure quality and reliability. Each recipe has a story and a purpose, often born from a specific need or inspired by our (brewing) adventures. Unlike many websites that offer endless lists of ingredients, our collection features recipes either developed by us or rigorously tested to meet our high standards. We focus on providing you with trustworthy, well-tested recipes, even though our selection may be smaller compared to vast recipe databases. Each recipe comes with detailed instructions, the scientific insights behind it, ensuring you get both a delicious brew and a bit of brewing lore.

Other categories are also available on the site:
METHODS
Presenting the science of brewing, from good practices to tools to help you characterise your brews. Experimental methods that we attempted will be posted here.
REVIEWS
Our views on products mainly. We all are fond of particular malts or hops and this will be the place were we comment about this. Additionaly, we might publish some tests and reviews of equipment we have used in our experiments.
REFERENCES
We dive into the latest brewing research and summarise the findings for you. By staying up-to-date with the latest scientific advancements, we bring cutting-edge science into our brewing and share those insights with you. You will find here references to papers worth reading and links to other resources.
Stay curious, stay humble, and most importantly, happy brewing!
Here’s to the endless possibilities of brewing, and the shared passion that brings us all together.
Cheers from Labcraft Brewology!
“Have you tried applying any of these brewing research findings in your own recipes? The insights seem really useful for experimenting with new techniques!”
Thank you for your message.
You are right, that’s the point, always trying new things – especially on the recipe side for my part with new ingredients and formulations.
We will share new recipes in the next update.
